Biography

As an amateur, Dalla Bona twice won the world 100 km team time trial, in 1964 and 1965, at Albertville and Lasarte-Oria respectively. He also won a bronze medal at the Nürburgring in 1966. At the Tokyo Olympics, on a cold and rainy day, the world championship-winning quartet of Dalla Bona, Pietro Guerra, Severino Andreoli and Ferruccio Manza was surprisingly beaten by the Netherlands four.

Dalla Bona turned professional in 1966 and spent his five-year career with the Salvarani team, led by their star, Felice Gimondi. Dalla Bona became one of his best supporting riders. He competed twice in both the Giro d’Italia (1968, 1969) and Tour de France (1967, 1970). His only stage win was in the 1968 Giro when he won the 19th stage between Abbadia San Salvatore and Roma. Dalla Bona won two one-day races, the 1967 Gran Premio Città di Camaiore, and the 1968 Giro delle Marche.
