Biography

August Schmierer was a German rugby union player who competed in the 1900 Summer Olympics. He was a member of the German rugby union team, which won the silver medal. Germany was represented at the tournament mainly by FC 1880 Frankfurt rather than an official national team.

Schmierer was born in Stuttgart-Cannstatt and left the town in 1889. He returned from Frankfurt in 1897 and became president of the soccer club Cannstatter FC, which in 1901 was transferred to Canstatter Fußball- und Tennis Club. In 1909 the club no longer had a football (soccer) or rugby team and was renamed as the Canstatter Tennis Club.
