The German field hockey team won the silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics after losing 8-1 to India in the final. Forward Erich Cuntz scored two goals in the 4-1 win over against Afghanistan in the group stage. He won 11 international caps between 1935-39. At the club level played for Turnverein Sachsenhausen 1857 and won the German Championship in 1939 and 1943.
