Biography

Karoly Fogl started his career at the Mezei Torna Club, and in 1912 he moved to Újpesti Törekvés. In 1918, they moved to the Újpest TE, where the two Fogl brothers played defense, given the name the “Fogl-dam”. In 1920, he was named Hungarian footballer of the year. In 1930 he won a championship title with Újpest and then retired. Between 1920 and 1930, Fogl played 51 times with the national team and scored two goals, also playing at the 1924 Paris Olympics.

At the end of his active career Fogl became a coach and went to Bulgaria where he led the team, Sport Club Sofia, to a championship in 1935. After that he coached the Romanian side Juventus Buçaresti, then a Hungarian team, ETO Győr. After World War II, Fogl won a Polish title in 1947 as the coach of Warta Poznań.
