Biography

Bill Sheppell starting playing with the US national team in 1949 and earned four caps that year, but he was not selected to play at the 1950 World Cup. Between 1952-54 he earned another seven caps, counting the single match played by the US at the 1952 Olympics. Sheppell played four games in 1954 in World Cup qualifying, but the US did not make the tournament.

Sheppell was a forward who played for both the American Soccer League (ASL) and the German-American Soccer League (GASL). He started in high school playing for Kearny Celtic of the ASL, but in 1947 joined the Newark German Americans of the GASL. Sheppell later played for Seton Hall University where he was first-team All-American in 1950, but he continued to play with the German-Americans, retiring in 1954.
