Biography

Harry Mitchell of the Polytechnic BC, winner of the ABA light-heavyweight championship for four successive years (1922-5), experienced little difficulty in his quest for the 1924 Olympic light-heavyweight title until he came up against Carlo Saraudi of Italy in the semi-finals. Saraudi was an awkward fighter and a persistent clincher and it was not until the closing stages of the final round that Mitchell got the better of him. In the final, Mitchell faced Thyge Petersen of Denmark who, like Saraudi, tried to keep the fight at close quarters. The result was a disappointment fight but with Mitchell as the clear winner.
