Biography

Brothers Carl Heinrich, Oscar and Gustav Goßler were members of the German eight which reached the final at the 1900 Paris Olympics although they lost in the heats. The German boat was the fourth of four qualified boats as the French Societé Nautique de la Marne did not finish its heat. Alexander Gleichmann von Oven was coxswain for the Hamburger Germania Ruderclub crew, but was removed for the final and replaced by an unknown younger and 45 pounds lighter French coxswain, but the crew still finished fourth and last in the final.

The Goßler brothers were also members of the German coxed fours, winning the the B final for the Deutscher Ruderverband. Gustav Goßler later became a businessman in Hamburg and died on his 61st birthday.
