Biography

Springboard diver Hans-Dieter Pophal, son-in-law of well-known diver Olga Jensch-Jordan, finished eighth at the 1960 Roma Olympics and fourth four years later in Tokyo. He also won East German national titles in 1958, and from 1960-67. In 1962 he won a silver medal at the European Championships.

Pophal later worked as a swimming and diving coach. In 1994 he earned two titles at the Senior’s Worlds in Montreal. In 1998 he won three more World Championships in Casablanca, and in 2000 added another one, while in 2003, Pophal claimed three European titles.
