Biography

Kersten Meier was a freestyle swimmer who finished sixth with the West German 4x100 m freestyle relay team at the 1972 München Olympics. He also finished last in his 100 m freestyle semi-final and missed the final. At the 1974 Vienna European Championships, he won the relay gold medal, and at the Cali World Championships the following year, won the silver medal.

Meier committed suicide in 2004 by jumping from the Theodor-Heuss bridge in Düsseldorf. He left behind his wife, the former West German non-Olympian swimmer Iris Schöttke, and three children. By profession, Meier worked as a freelance business consultant.
