Biography

Grandson of the wealthy industrial magnate, J. P. Morgan, John Morgan went to Yale, where he briefly played on the soccer team. He went into a career in investment banking, but still sailed frequently. mostly in ocean racing. Much of his racing has been with 1952 crew member, Eric Ridder. At the 1952 Olympics, Morgan was a crew member for Herman Whiton aboard Llanoria and sailed in all the races save one, when he was indisposed and Whiton’s wife, Emelyn Whiton, took over Morgan’s place in the crew.
