Biography

Celso Scarpini was a Brazilian basketball player who was active during the 1960s and 1970s. Scarpini joined the national team when he was 16 and played alongside other great Brazilian basketball players including Wlamir Marques, Rosa Branca, and Ubiratan.

At the 1963 Pan American Games in Brazil he was on the team that won the silver medal. Five years later he competed at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics where the Brazilian team finished in fourth place. At club level he began his career at Grêmio Náutico União, later playing for Corinthians and Fluminense, among others. Scarpini worked on the “Bola na Cesta” project in Itajaí and the surrounding region working with needy children and distributing basketballs.
