Biography

János Dalmati started his sporting career in 1961 in the colors of Budapest Honvéd. He was Hungarian champion at the 20 km walk in 1965, a feat that he repeated in 1969 and 1970. Dalmati also won three consecutive individual championships in the 50 km walk between 1970-72. In addition, as a member of Honvéd he won 15 championship titles in the team event.

He represented his country 18 times as the member of a Hungarian national team in an international career that lasted sixteen years (1965-81). His most notable result was the 22nd place in the 50-kilometer walk at the 1972 Munich Olympics. At the European Championships he finished 10th in 20km in 1966, 15th in 20km and 10th in 50 in 1969 and 11th in 50km in 1971. He achieved his personal best well after the age of 30 [20 km: 1:27:30 hours (1977), 50 km: 4.08: 42 (1979)]. Dalmati ended his exceptionally long racing career at the age of 45 in 1987 in the colors of BVSC.
