Biography

Georg Drescher was active in cycling and also weightlifting, wrestling, swimming and billiard sports. He was for many years chairman of the Mainzer Hockeyclub and the skating club Mainzer Eislaufverein, and from 1910-14 and 1925-29 was Carnival President of the Mainzer Prinzengarde. In 1888 Drescher cofounded the heavy athletics club ASV Mainz 1888, and in 1902 the Mainzer Rudergesellschaft (rowing club). In 1938 he suffered a heart attack during the European Weightlifting Championships in Wien (Vienna). At the 1900 Summer Olympics he participated as a cyclist in the men’s sprint but was eliminated early.
