Biography

Toshihisa Tsuchihashi was a Japanese tennis player who played professionally from 1985 to 1992. Tsuchihashi achieved a career-best singles ranking of #359 in the world in May 1988, and a doubles ranking of #515 in the world in May 1987. He played on Japan’s Davis Cup team from 1986 to 1989.

As a student Tsuchihashi was the singles champion in 1983 whilst at Yanagawa High School. After enrolling at Waseda University in Tokyo he won four back-to-back All Japan Student singles titles from 1985 to 1988. Tsuchihashi competed in the singles and doubles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics but did not advance past the first round in either event.

After his retirement as a player Tsuchihashi became a coach at Waseda University as well as coaching the national Fed Cup team. In 2018 he was appointed as a director of the Japan Tennis Association.
