Biography

German freestyle swimmer Sara Harstick won two Olympic bronze medals with the 4x200 free relay at the 2000 Sydney and the 2004 Athens Olympics, although she only swam the heats at Athens. She also participated in the 200 metres freestyle individual event in 2004 but was eliminated in the heats. In 2001, she added another bronze with the 4x200 free relay at the World Championships.

Harstick was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 2001, she won her only German national title over 400 metres. She retired eight months ahead the 2008 Beijing Olympics after her coach Rainer Tylinski was released by the German Swimming Association.
