Biography

East German born Nordic combined skier Günther Naumann finished 14th at the 1968 Grenoble Winter Games. Growing up in the Erzgebirge, he fled from the former GDR to the Federal Republic at the age of 18. Although Naumann already enjoyed success in the Socialist state – he took a third place in the GDR youth championships – he moved in 1959 to Urach for different reasons: he just wanted to earn money. After his active career Naumann worked as a national coach for the German Skiing Association and later became a sports teacher.
