Canadian-born Dominic Lavoie was a two-time Austrian Olympian, in 1998 at Nagano and 2002 at Salt Lake City. As an ice hockey defenceman, he came 14th and 12th with the Austrian team respectively. In total, he won 35 international caps and scored 16 points (8 goals and 8 assists).
Lavoie moved to Europe in 1994. During his time in Europe, he played with VEU Feldkirch (1994-99), helping them win the Austrian nationals 1994-98 and the European Hockey League in 1998, when he was voted the best defenceman in the Final Four. Lavoie then moved to Hannover Scorpions in Germany (1999-2002) and returned to EC Supergau Feldkirch (2002-04).
During his time in North America, Lavoie played in the minor leagues with lower league teams Saint-Jean Castors (1984-87), Peoria Rivermen (1987-92), New Haven Senators (1992), Providence Bruins (1992-93), and Phoenix Roadrunners (1993-94).
