Biography

Augusto Bonadio boxed in the 1930s, winning four Italian middleweight titles – in 1935, 1937, and 1939-40. He was entered for the 1936 Berlin Olympics but did not start. In May-June 1935 Bonadio was part of an Italian tour in the United States that was led by the chef de mission, Count Francesco di Campello, with the endorsement of the Royal Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the secretary of CONI, Giorgio Vaccaro. On 22 May at Soldier’s Field in Chicago, in front of over 20,000 spectators, Bonadio fought Dave Clark but was beaten by decision. Due to the war, Bonadio never turned professional, as he continued working for the FIAT in Torino.
