Biography

A French champion in ju-jitsu wrestling, “Cyclone” Roger Clement had impressive speed on his feet, which subsequently contributed to his success in the boxing ring. A French boxing champion, who studied at university, Clement’s style was a blend of pure science and hard hitting. He also had an excellent defence, capable of handling a significant amount of punishment. Unfortunately, he was one of seven French boxers who pulled out of the 1908 Olympics at the last minute. Clement had one fight as a professional, losing a welterweight contest to Francois Descamps at the Théâtre du Café Dubois, Denain, Nord, France on 29 August 1909. It was an undercard bout to the top-of-the-bill French World champion Georges Carpentier.
