Biography

Michel Méert was one of the best French high jumpers, placing third in three consecutive French Championships from 1910-12, in the latter year tied with Géo André. At the 1912 Olympics he only cleared 1.60 m, the lowest height of the competition.

Méert later lived in Morocco, working as an agent for the Compagnie franco-espagnole du chemin de fer de Tanger à Fès. There, in Tanjah (Tangier), he married Hélène Legrand in 1917. Together they had four children, two sons and two daughters. The last ones, Michel and Colette, became Franciscan monks in Morocco.
