Biography

Scott Macartney was an Alpine speed specialist who raced at the 2002 and 2006 Olympic Winter Games with a best result of seventh in the 2006 Super-G. Macartney attended Dartmouth College, earning an economics degree.

Macartney raced the World Cup circuit from 2002-10, earning two podiums, with a silver at a Super-G in Garmisch in 2006 and a bronze in a downhill at Val Gardena in 2008. He had five top 10 finishes in World Cup races. He competed at the World Championships in 2005 and 2007.

At the 2008 Hahnenkamm downhill in Kitzbühel, Austria Macartney was heading for a top 10 finish when he went airborne over the final jump and crashed, although he crossed the finish line. He was airlifted to a hospital in Innsbruck with possible bruising on the brain and was placed into an induced coma. Fortunately, he fully recovered.
