Left-handed German badminton player Björn Joppien who played the men’s singles at the 2004 Athens Summer Olympics. Winning the first round 14:17, 15:7 and 15:11 to Finland’s Kasperi Salo he lost the eighth final to Singapore Ronald Susilo 15:11 and 15:6 and came tied ninth eventually.
Joppien played on club level with FC Langenfeld his whole career and won the German national team Championships in 2004. Individually, he gained the national titles in men’s singles in 2000-04, and 2006-07. Internationally, he won the Scottish Open in 2003 and two bronze medals at the 2004 European Championships in men’s singles and with the German team. He retired in 2010.
