Biography

Wayne Dickert raced Canadian slalom doubles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, partnered by Horace Holden. He had been an alternate for the 1992 US Olympic team. Like many US canoeists he trained on the Nantahala River near Bryson City, North Carolina. Dickert remained in the area, and became a minister, serving at the Bryson City United Methodist Church. He did some occasional teaching as a certification instructor and also worked as a raft guide. But Dickert focused on his ministry efforts, and worked raising money to provide water for Haiti, building about 21 community wells, and helping to build a hospital.
