Biography

Equestrian Otto Ammermann won the silver medal with the West German three-day event team at the 1976 Montréal Olympics riding Volturno. Individually he was disqualified in the cross-country phase after a fall. In 1969, 1978 and 1980, Ammermann won the West German nationals. In 1978 he won a team silver at the Worlds. He and Volturno were inducted into the International Riding Hall of Fame. For his Olympic silver medal, Ammermann was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.
