Biography

Elizabeth Poblete competed at the 2007 Pan-American Games, placing seventh. Her qualification for the 2008 Olympics was via unused spaces allocated to the Tripartite Commission, and she placed 12th in the heavyweight division in Beijing. On 8 December 2009, Poblete made world-wide headlines when she was training, and began to feel unwell. While straining during an attempted lift, she unexpectedly gave birth to a baby boy, who was born three months prematurely and was immediately taken to an intensive care unit. Poblete did not know she was pregnant at any time. Unfortunately, the baby died within a week.
