Salvador Jiménez Cáceres began his sporting career playing basketball and eventually represented the Honduras national team from 1969 to 1972. Cáceres then graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration and later worked in a senior role at the Central American Bank for Economic Integration. He remained close to sport in the country throughout his life, eventually being elected as the President of the National Olympic Committee of Honduras in 2001. Cáceres was re-elected multiple times during his tenure, serving in the role until his death in January 2025.
