Aimé Haegeman was a horseman who won gold in the 1900 Olympic show jumping event aboard Benton, a 10-year-old bay stallion, who he also owned. Born in Belgium he became a career military man, serving as an officer in the Lancers and an instructor, as a lieutenant, at l’École de Cavalerie d’Ypres. In 1902 Haegeman was captain with the 2nd Chasseurs.
