Cavalry officer Yasushi Imamura studied at the Italian Cavalry School from 1929-31. While there, he won the high jumping competition of the Queen Yolanda Cup on Sunny Boy at the 1930 International Tournament in Torino. He later wrote a book on horse riding with an emphasis on the Italian school. Imamura also sold the horse Uranus to the eventual gold medalist Takeichi, Baron Nishi.
