Biography

Equestrian Helmut Rethemeier won a silver medal with the West German three-day event team at the 1976 Montréal Olympics, riding Pauline. Individually he finished 19th. In 1978 and 1982 he won two more team silvers at the Worlds. He also won the bronze medal in the individual event in 1978 and silver in 1982. For his Olympic silver medal, he was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In 2014, he and his horse Braxxi were inducted into the International Riding Hall of Fame. By profession, Rethemeier was a farmer from Vlotho in Lower Saxony.
