Biography

Road cyclist Algis Oleknavicius was of Lithuanian descent, but was a member of the West German 100 km time trial team that finished 20th at the 1972 München Olympics. He won eight West German national titles: six in the road time trial in 1966, 1968-69, 1972, 1974, and 1977. The other two were track events, the Madison in 1970, and team pursuit in 1974. In the 1990s, Oleknavicius twice competed in the Ironman triathlon at Hawaii, and also organised major cycling events in Hessia
