Biography

Elisabetta Fanton was an Italian cyclist. In the first years of her career, she dedicated herself to track cycling, taking part in her first World Championship (1984 Barcelona) at only 15-years-old. She finished fifth in the sprint as she would in 1985, 1986, and 1987. At the 1988 Seoul Olympics she was eliminated in the first round repechage, but for six consecutive years, from 1984-89, she was Italian sprint champion.

For the rest of her career Fanton devoted herself to the roads. In 1990 she recorded her most important win, the Italian road race championship. In the same year she took part in the team time trial at the Utsunomiya Road World Championships alongside Monica Bandini, Katia Furlan and Maria Paola Turcutto, finishing eighth overall.

After a season with G.S. Castagnole and another with A.S. Merate Cantine Pirovano, Fanton ended her career in 1992, at only 24, after having won the Roma Gran Premio Liberazione.
