Andrea Bieger was a member of the West German female gymnast team that finished seventh at the 1976 Montréal Olympics. She also placed 12th as the best West German gymnast in the individual all-around, but missed the apparatus finals. Domestically, she won several medals in the 1970s and 1980s. In 1996 she fled from her husband, leaving Kiel for the United States and her new life partner, along with two of her children.
One of the children was Jana, who won three silver medals at the 2006 Worlds for the United States. She was then a substitute at the 2008 Beijing Olympics but was not brought in. Andrea Bieger established Bieger International Gymnastics in Florida and worked as a physiotherapist, gymnastics coach, and sports teacher. In 2006, she was elected gymnastics coach of the year in the US.
