Biography

Jonas Carney was a cyclist who competed in the kilo time trial and the team sprint at the 2000 Sydney Olympics. Also a road cyclist, he was US Junior Champion on the roads in 1988-89 and won the Tour of Somerville, the top one-day road race in the USA, in 1992, 1994, 1998, 2000, 2002, and 2003 – a record for the most wins at that race. On the track Carney won US titles in the kilometre in 2000, the team pursuit in 2001, and the Madison and points race in 2003. Continuing to race on the roads, he won the 2004 US Criterium Championships, shortly before he retired from high-level competition.

Carney race for Coors Light in 1992-93, Saturn in 1994-95, Team Shaklee from 1996-2000, Prime Alliance in 2001-03, and the Jelly Belly-Aramark team in 2004. He later became a team director, leading the Kelly Benefit Strategies-Medifast men’s team from 2007 and the Rally Cycling women’s team from 2016.
