Biography

Giacomo Fornoni was a gold medalist in the 100 km team time trial at the 1960 Roma Olympics. He later competed for nine years as a professional, all with the Molteni team. Fornoni competed four times at the Giro d’Italia, in 1962-63 and 1965-66, with a best GC placement of 51st in 1965. He also raced three times at both Milano-San Remo and the Giro di Lombardia. In 1964 he won the Trofeo Baracchi two-man time trial alongside Gianni Motta. Fornoni was fourth at the 1963 World Championships on the track in the individual pursuit. After retirement he and his wife opened a restaurant in Rogeno, and named it “Cinque Cerchi” or five rings, in honor of his Olympic gold medal. He received in 2015 the Gold Collar for Sporting Merit from the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI).
