Following the end of World War II Finnish cyclist Torvald Högström represented Porvoon Akilles. In 1948 Högström won the Porvoon ajot, the oldest one-day race in Finland, to earn a place on the Olympic team. At the Games he competed in the road race and was part of the 4,000 metres team pursuit on the track. In 1950 he won another edition of the Porvoon ajot before becoming the Finnish national road race champion one year later.
