Biography

Livio Isotti was an Italian cyclist in the later 1940s and 50s. As an amateur after World War II, he took part without distinction at the 1948 London Olympics and the road World Championships at Valkenburg. He turned professional in 1950 with Arbos and won the Giro di Romagna in 1952, also placing third at Milano-Torino and fifth at the Giro dell’Emilia.

In 1953 Isotti moved to team Ganna where he rode in support of Fiorenzo Magni. In that year he claimed his biggest professional victory when, on 9 July, he won stage seven (Le Mans-Nantes) at the Tour de France. He placed 42nd overall while at the Giro d’Italia he was 28th in 1952 and 40th a year later. In 1954 he won two stages and was second overall at the Tour di Sicily. After an unlucky 1955, because of physical problems, he retired from competition. In the 1960s Isotti moved to Canada where he had some relatives and began working as a plumber. He died after a long illness from cancer at the age of 72.
