Takehisa Kato was studying at Hosei University in Tokyo when he was selected to compete at his home Olympics in 1964. A decent cyclist, Kato competed in team time trial at the Games, finishing 19th with his compatriots. Following the Olympics he became a professional keirin rider, competing in races for many years. After his retirement Kato managed a taxi company in his hometown.
