Biography

Born in the Lombardy Region in 1968, Roberto Maggioni was the 1986 World Junior 75 km team time trial champion in Casablanca with Luca Colombo, Mauro Consonni, and Paolo Morandi. Maggioni finished ninth in the road race.

When aged just 20, Maggioni participated at the Seoul Olympics in the team time trial alongside Eros Poli, Mario Scirea, and Flavio Vanzella, finishing fifth overall. In 1989 he took part in the Chambéry World Championships, again in the team time trial, finishing tenth. The following year he won the Papa Cervi Trophy, his only victory in an individual race.

Maggioni never turned professional and ended his career in 1992 at the age of 24. He later became president of the Bike Team Formaggilandia2 of Malgrate.
