Biography

East German cyclist Dirk Meier was a member of the silver medal-winning 4,000 metres track pursuit team at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In 1986 and 1987 he won the national title with his home club SC Cottbus. He also won silver medals at the World Championships in both years, and then won the world title in 1989.

In 1988 Meier won the Lower Saxony Tour and the Olympia’s Tour, and in 1987 and 1989, the Tour de Liège. From 1997-2000 he managed the professional cycling team Agro-Adler Brandenburg. He then became harbor master of the boat company at Burg (Spreewald) and owned two hotels.
