Jean Roth

The pinnacle of Jean Roth’s career as an amateur cyclist came at the 1948 London Olympics, where he competed in the sprint and tandem sprint events, in the latter just missing the podium in fourth with Max Aeberli. In the former, he was eliminated in round two by Charlie Bazzano of Australia.

He turned professional in 1950 and notched 16 victories in six-day races between then and 1958, nine of which came with fellow London Olympian Walter Bucher. Roth continued to compete with less success through 1961, after which he retired from active competition. He rode with several different teams, but was with Switzerland’s Condor during the height of his career.
