Ueli Sutter

In 1972 Swiss cyclist Ueli Sutter was selected to compete in both the road race and the team time trial at the München Olympics, finishing 24th and eighth, respectively. That same year Sutter had success at the Tour de l’Avenir in France, winning the fifth stage of the race and the overall mountains classification. In 1973 he turned professional, having three consecutive podium places at the Swiss national road championships from 1974 to 1976.

Sutter was consistent at the Tour de Suisse, finishing fourth in 1977, followed by second one year later. He also won the King of the Mountains jersey at the Giro d’Italia in 1978, and finished tenth overall in the general classification. One year later Sutter rode in the Tour de France for the first time, winning two team time trial stages with TI–Raleigh–McGregor. After his cycling career he worked for the Japanese bicycle manufacturer Koga Miyata in a technical role.
