Biography

Jeanne Froment-Meurice was the wife of Jacques Froment-Meurice, who was a fencing judge at the 1900 Paris Olympics. Via marriage she became the sister-in-law of Rose Gelbert. For many years we were not certain of her identity but could only state she was one of several wives of Froment-Meurice or his brothers, but recent research by Taavi Kalju and Jean-Michel Serrurier has confirmed her identity.

Jeanne Froment-Meurice was the highest placed French player in the 1900 Olympic women’s golf tournament, finishing fourth behind three US players. She was a member of the Société de sport de Compiègne, with the Olympic golf tournament held at the Compiègne Club.
