One of the pioneers polo in France, Jean Boussod played for the recently formed Bagatelle Club in an international match against the Hurlingham Club at Paris in 1894 and the following year won the Paris International Tournament. He played at number three for the Compiègne Polo Club at the 1900 Olympics but his Olympic career was short-lived and was limited to just one game that ended in a 10-0 defeat by the Foxhunters Hurlingham side. Boussod was also a polo umpire and officiated at the 1900 Paris Tournament. He also owned several race horses and won the 1898 French Champion Hurdle with Grandlieu. Boussod was involved in a potentially nasty incident in the Bois de Boulogne, Paris, in 1901 when a gang of knife-yielding youths attacked him. Fortunately, his polo experience, and the walking stick he was carrying, which was used as a weapon, managed to fend off the youths.
