Walter Bartram

After graduating from Freiburg University in economics and law, Walter Bartram joined an oil mill in Lübeck and between then and after the war, he spent his entire working career in the oil industry. Bartram was a right-wing politician, before and during the World War II when he was a member of the DVP (Deutsche Volkspartei), then joined the Nazi Party. After the war, he was elected Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein for the CDU (Christlich Demokratische Union) in 1950. Because of his membership in the Nazi party he had to resign in 1951 but was still unchallenged until 1957 as a member of the German Bundestag, the lower Parliament.

At the 1936 Olympics he played as the back in Germany’s two matches; the 8-8 draw with Hungary and subsequent 16-6 defeat in the replay. In 1952 Bartram was the Chairman of the German Olympic Association for Neumünster in Schleswig-Holstein.
