Biography

Birgit Hagen and the West German female field hockey team won the silver medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics round-robin tournament, finishing with six points. She was also World Champion in 1976 and 1981 and World runner-up in 1978. Hagen also won the European Indoors in 1975, 1977 and 1981, and, in 1984, she won bronze at the Europeans. She won 145 international caps (including 28 indoor) between 1975-84.

Domestically, Hagen played with Kölner HTC Blau-Weiss and later Düsseldorfer HC. She helped Köln to win the West German title in 1980, and the indoor title in 1979 and 1980. Her sons Lukas and Tim Blasberg also became field hockey players.
