The German field hockey team won the silver medal at the 1936 Berlin Olympics after losing 8-1 to India in the final. Half-back Carl Menke played in the 6-0 win over Denmark in the group stage. It was one of the four international caps he won between 1935-36. He played for Berliner SV 92 and won the German Championship in 1940.
