Biography

Field hockey player Michael Metz participated in two consecutive Olympic Games, winning the silver medal with West Germany at Seoul in 1988, after losing to Great Britain 3-1 in the final. At Barcelona in 1992, the now re-unified German team won the final against Australia 2-1 and took the gold medal. Therefore, the team and all players were awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award.

Metz won 141 international caps (including 10 indoor) between 1985-93. He was European Champion in 1988, and European Indoor Champion in 1987. He was also a four-times Champions Trophy winner. Domestically, Metz played with Dürkheimer HC, helping them to win the German Championships in 1992 and 1993. By profession, he became a graduated process engineer.
