Biography

Marcelle Bory was born in Paris, the daughter of a merchant and farmer. Her family home was located on rue de l’Abbé-Grégoire in the sixth arrondissement of Paris, where she joined the fencing club of master G.-J. Poigt, located next door. Beginning at a young age, Bory was a successful competitor in female fencing competitions in the early 1920s, and in 1924, was selected to represent France at the Olympic Games. There, she was a member of France’s first female Olympic fencing team, alongside Yvonne Conte, Lucie Prost of Paris, and Fernande Tassy of Rouen. Competing in the individual foil event, she did not advance past the first round. In 1925, Bory was a pastourelle in La Ligue Auvergnate et du Massif Central for the Cantal. She died in 1929 at the young age of 21.
