Salah Larbès got his start in football with his hometown club JS Tixeraine, but transferred in 1967 to CS Customs Algiers where, after a year, he advanced to the senior squad. After two years there, and one with NR Public Works Algiers, he joined JS Kabylie in 1971 and would remain with them until his retirement in 1987. During his time with the club, he won eight Algerian national titles (1973, 1974, 1977, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1985, and 1986) and two editions of the Algerian Cup (1977 and 1986). Internationally, he earned 46 caps with the national team, most notably at the 1980 Moscow Olympics, where Algeria was eliminated by Yugoslavia in the quarter-finals.
Larbès also represented Algeria at the 1982 FIFA World Cup, where the nation was eliminated in the first group stage, and the 1980 and 1982 African Cup of Nations, where the country was runner-up and fourth respectively. During the 1990s, he had a coaching stint with JS Kabylie.
