Biography

Lu Changxin was born in Tianjin in 1937. In 1959, he graduated from the Central Academy of Sports, and was selected to play for the national youth basketball team the following year. However, Lu was forced to retire from playing in 1964 after suffering an injury.

After his playing career, Lu became a coach of the Chinese men’s basketball team. The team won the 1975 and 1977 Asian Championships, and finished in third place in 1985. Lu also coached the national team at three editions of the Asian Games, winning gold in 1978 and 1986, and two World Championships.

In 1987, Lu was appointed as the coach of the Chinese women’s basketball team. He coached some of the best Chinese basketball players, including Li Xin, Liu Qing, Peng Ping, Wang Fang and Li Dongmei. In 1988, Lu was the coach of the team that participated at the 1988 Seoul Olympics.
